La Plata High School in Maryland, “has been accused of radical Islamic indoctrination by forcing children to profess the Muslim statement of faith, ordering them to memorize the Five Pillars of Islam.” John Wood filed a discrimination lawsuit against the school district on behalf of his daughter claiming, “that a 16-year old girl was taught a ‘sugar-coated version of Islam’ and forced the child to disparage her faith.” According to the lawsuit filed the school spent only one day studying Christianity and two weeks studying Islam.

According to the law center, the teacher actually taught the students that the Islamic religion is a fact, while Christianity and Judaism are just beliefs. The students were also forced to write and confess the Shahada which is the Islamic Creed. It says that “there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”  For reference, the statement is what non-Muslims use to pledge allegiance to Islam when converting to the religion.”

When Wood complained about his daughter’s assignment to the school he was banned from the school grounds. In a statement made by the school district it said “the particular unit in question is on the formation of Middle Eastern empires in which students learned the basic concepts of the Islamic faith and how it, along with politics, culture, economics, and geography, contributed to the development of the Middle East.”
