Christian Teacher Threatened with Lawsuit Removes Prayer ‘Request Board’

Teacher  Randi Rogers did something remarkable at the Lamar County School District. In her classroom she displayed a ‘Prayer Request’ board, so she could pray for any needs her students had. Unfortunately, an atheist group called Appignani Humanist Legal Center, which is a division of American Humanist Association, wrote a letter to the school, aggressively demanding the Mississippi school board take the ‘Prayer Request’ board down or they would file a lawsuit against the school district. The atheist group said that the ‘Prayer Request’ board violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.

The Lamar County School District has since taken the ‘Prayer Request’ board down. The superintendent went as far as to write a letter to parents saying, “I am writing to everyone to remind you that, as public employees, you must refrain from using public classrooms to promote religion and prayer specifically.”

Many parents and followers on Facebook have started a petition in support of Randi Rogers. So far 500 people have signed the petition and another 3,000 have liked it on Facebook.

“A Teacher who cares about her students enough to pray for them… Give her a RAISE!!!” Paul Roller commented on the petition.

This story has created a lot of mixed reviews, but several hundred people have come out to support Randi Rogers.
