Although a Pew Center study from 2008 reports only five percent of Tennessee identifies as ‘Muslim’, a public school project in that state would have you believe otherwise.

Maury County middle schools asked students to write the five pillars of Islam and translate text from the Quran in a recent history class project. Several parents took exception to the fact, that these assignments were part of the curriculum but that Christianity or Judaism were not also equally represented in their school district’s curriculum.

One mother of a seventh-grade girl, Brandee Porterfield said, “It really did bother me that they skipped the whole chapter on the rise of Christianity and they spent three weeks just studying Islam.’
